From One Extreme To The Other

We have had a good taste of Winter here on the farm. From a covering of snow just a few days ago,

to a thick coating of ice in the night and up to the morning hours this morning, to 60 mph winds and dirt by this afternoon.

Remember my plans for the greenhouse? It has been sealed in plastic sheeting and has an electric heater set at 50 degrees. As you can see, the plants are happy. I have a tomato plant growing inside as well!

Because of the frigid temperature, the heavy dirt, and wind, I have been inside, stitching away. My towel orders are done and I have made the decision to not take stitching orders for the next coming year. Instead I am going to be selling my hand made items, along with my pumpkins and zinnias at the farmer's market in the next town , this coming July. I spoke with the folks who put this together, and they welcome handmade items. I am really looking forward to this. How about you? Do any of you sell in your farmer's markets? Do you sell handmade items or just garden produce? When you go, what do you look for? I would love to hear!

Also, if you love sourdough bread and want the recipe for a wonderful, easy starter, just hop over to My Country Kitchen blog http://countrykitchenkat.blogspot.com/

I have finally found a sourdough starter that works and keeps on working!

The greenhouse plants look great. How nice to have a place to sell your pretty hand-crafted items and pumpkins and flowers. We have a local farmer's market that I love to visit each weekend. We had lots of rain and heavy winds yesterday & the the day before.

Your handwork is gorgeous; you won't have any trouble finding a place to sell things like that.
Your greenhouse has made me think about doing that here. I hate to move all my plants indoors in the winter. Debbie

Kathleen, your greenhouse is perect, I'm glad you are able to keep your plants warm and cozy.

I love going to the markets. I love fresh produce and always get a bouquet of flowers. Anytime I run onto a market that has handmade items, looks for me in that area...I can't pass up those lovelies. I know you are going to be so successful when you sell...if I lived near you I'd be there for sure...hugs, Linda

Hi Kathleen! We've had some strange weather in California too!

I really love your towels, and am going to love seeing all your new homemade items.

I also know you'll enjoy the market. I try to go every wek and it is always a treat. Best of luck with that venture!

Happy Holidays, Chris

Kathleen,
I love your towels. Your handwork is beautiful. You won't have any trouble selling them. What unusual weather you're having in TX. We're having a lot of wind and rain here in NC. I hope you have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Our taste of winter has brought a week of temps like 7 degrees. So cold.
Love you embroidery. I think you will enjoy the farmers market experience.

Kathleen, I'm glad your greenhouse is working so well. It's always so sad to see things die in the cold. This Texas weather is always interesting, isn't it. :)

Yum! I love sourdough. Will have to check out that recipe.
Re: my post. I would much rather have something handmade with love than to have any gift given. I did love that doll.
How fun that you'll be selling at a farmers market!! I would love to do that. I love the interaction with the people. I wish you the best in that endeavor. Patty H.

Wow, Kathleen!
You are having some crazy weather!
Hope that it'll make up it's mind for you, soon! Thankfully, you have lots of crafting to do!

I just think that it's the neatest thing that you're going to be able to sell your homemade things and your pumpkins!!!!! I'm in awe! That just sounds dreamy, to me!

Our local farmer's market isn't one at all. It has old clothes stacked on the produce tables and broken furniture and such. There's a little farm stand outside of town that we like to visit. They sell veggies, peaches, firewood, and homemade ice cream.
Please take lots of pictures of your farmstand - I just love them!!!

Did you get your box back from Salem?!?!

Merry Christmas,
Julie

We do the same exact thing you do for your plants with plant lights in the garage under plastic ... I just hate to have a plant die, so I save them from year to year for the garden in the spring.

We are freezing cold here with nasty winds today.

Merry Christmas, TTFN ~ Marydon

The weather is just crazy! It goes from 64 one day to 40 the next day. I never know what to wear, lol!

I am so glad your greenhouse is doing well, I had been wondering about it.

I like your plans for farmers' market. We are on a main highway and have a built in market here, now we just have to take advantage of it and I think this is the year.

I'll be picking up your recipe for sourdough, been looking for a good one for awhile.

Kathleen, your stitchery is so pretty. I bet your handmade items will be very popular items at the Farmer's Market. I'm glad to see your plants are doing well in the greenhouse. Hope you are having a great weekend! :)
