Limited Help

The sun was unusually large this morning when I headed out to walk the grounds, filling the sky with hues of gold and tangerine. It's funny, no matter how hard I try and no matter how many different ways I try to photograph it, it never looks more than just a dot in the sky.
Everything around me is silent. Inside and outside. The only one eager to go out and walk around with me......
is Sophie.

Boo, is still in deep slumber....even though she slept all night, all the day before and the night before that.......

Old Max, is stretched out in the coolness of the porch.

He's been up since 5:00 AM and already the day has caught up with him.

Max has 7.....yes....7 toes on each of his feet. Those big paws used to make everything that crawled or flew.....terrified. Now they rest........

Abbey has been out all night.....making me worry about whether she would return or not. Cats that stay out all night around here, usually do not return. Thankfully, she has, and she is exhausted.

Salem has been on the prowl since 5:00 AM this morning...chasing, taunting and sneaking up on the birds and rodents that criss- cross through ......his eyes still have a little life in them as he lies down to catch a nap....

This is Homer. He showed up about a week ago. It is unusual to see a pigeon out this far. He has a band around his leg......so I assume he has escaped or someone let him fly, thinking that he would return. He seems content to stay...eating with the wild birds.

My zinnia garden is starting to grow well. These are the few rolls I planted a few weeks ago. This morning I added 5 more rows, filling the garden space up.

Many are already getting buds on them.

Just a couple have bloomed. I think my dream now leans toward a pumpkin farm/ zinnia farm....they do have flower farms don't they??

Wait a minute.......what's this???? Sophie......
the day has caught up with her as well..
Guess I'm on my own for now.

I love dogs and cats and it's so fun to see each of yours. They really have the life don't they??? Eat and sleep! I've never had success with zinnias. Yours are so healthy and loaded with buds. I hope you will share more pics later. Have a great evening.

What a cute post-I think I'm ready for a nap too now : )

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to just curl up and take a nap anytime and anywhere you feel like it the way cats and dogs do? :)

Your zinnias are looking great! A pumpkin and zinnia farm sounds like great fun!

Oh to be a contented kitty....eat,sleep,play, eat, sleep, play and so it goes, I'm glad Abbey made her way home.

Cats who roam don't last here, either. We had a passle but only one left: Sasha the Wise, who stays mostly on the porch and in the safe confines of the fenced back yard--no dogs, no coyotes! Thanks for a relaxing read! C

Seven toes on each foot??? Wow, Max!

Zinnias are my favorite flowers. They are so wonderfully old-fashioned...

A zinnia farm! That would be a beautiful sight, wonder if it would be profitable? Yours are looking good!

Funny, I almost posted all my cats napping in this heat and decided to go with just the one picture ( i posted your Salem look-alike) then as I read this I was glad I didn't...pretty cute, all those lay-a-bed critters of yours.Especially Max the polydactyl!

Blessings to you and yours, Kathleen!

To clarify, I was glad I did not post pics of all my napping cats as it would look like I was a copy CAT!

I'm sorry you didn't get any help, but they all do look so sweet sleeping.

Have you ever read "Chasing Red Bird"? It's about a girl named Zinnia,
I enjoy listening to it on tape.

OK, I happened by your blog from your comment on another blog and I love it here! I was reading some of your older posts and I loved the one about your grandma - and her name was Pearl - that so grandma-y!!! I love it! Only a grandma can give kids Coke and cookies and get away with it. :) And your cat has 7 toes! Niiiiice. My daughter had some problems with her feet and toes and just had surgery #8 on Friday - I wish she had that cat! Too bad for allergies. I'd love it if you get a minute to e-mail me and tell me how you made your dream of living in the country come true. Are you retired? Change of careers? That's my dream as well, but my husband works in St. Louis. Wahhh. Sbams@charter.net Take care ~ OH! I'm a stitcher, too - cross stitch!

Our constant companions need a little rest, too! What are you going to do with all those zinnias? They look marvelous. I can only dream of having that much room to grow flowers. :)

Kathleen, I just love coming here!
Your posts brighten my days!
Zinnias are most wonderful aren't they?
They have become one of my favorite flowers and I have decided that I am going to plant them everywhere around here! Ü
Wishing you tons of sweet and simple joys today! ♥

Kathleen,
I love the photos of the dogs and cats. This posting is really nice. I enjoyed it very much. Your zinnias look as though they are coming along nicely. I love zinnias. Blessings, Brenda.

Love the zinnias (they make such wonderful cut flowers - last a long time in a vase). Your "helpers" are encouraging you to lay back and take it easy on these hot days -it was Noel Coward's song about "mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun" wasn't it? and in W. Tx. once the sun is up - it is about like a mid day sun all day! take care and keep taking those adorable pet pics - they are such beloved members of a household

You have such wonderful pets! Sophie is always ready to go. I would be more like some of your cats and would still be napping.

We have a cat that wants to stay outside all the time. It really worries me as we have predators. In fact last night I chased a coyote from under our bedroom window!

Your animals are so pretty! We have several rabbits that come into the yard. My son has named one of the Fred but not sure he can tell which one it really is-all look the same to me.

tHanks for your encouragment.

I always thought it'd be neat to grow huge fields of flowers then 'rent' them to photographers to take people's pictures in them!

I do love your cats and your zinnia garden--I never got my seeds planted this year--we had so much rain and then it seemed to be too late! I love the look of that pie--it is so tempting--Do tell soon what it is and how to make it! And your embroidery is so beautiful--I'm working on a piece now for my new grandson who should arrive in Oct. V.
