Do You Hear What I Hear?

The cool spring mornings have turned into the hot almost like summer afternoons.
Temperatures reached up to 107, making the outside unbearable.....
except for the tough cactus, which makes the day as hot as this, cheery. Not a breeze is blowing and not a sound can be heard as every creature and beast hides away from the sweltering heat. But......in the coolness of the shed.......there is a sound......

the plants are all sprouting......yet they are silent,.....

Hercules is taking a nice afternoon nap......

but soon...he hears it....his ears perking and listening......wondering who could be disturbing his afternoon slumber....

Zelda cat sits with curiosity....watching the place from where the sounds are coming....she has heard these sounds before.....

what a noisy little bunch of fluff balls! Aren't they precious? I had decided not to get any new chicks this year.......but one visit to the feed store....one chirp and peep later....and I am carrying a box of 8 home with me. I have their nursery hutch in the hen house ready, however, they will stay in the hutch in the shed for a few weeks to get a little bigger and stronger. Soon they will be outside and the shed will resume to it's quietness. Are any of you having extreme hot days yet? Or do you still have snow here and there.... a lot of rain perhaps? I would love to hear.

Goodness that is hot! We have had hot and cold and we had 2 small earthquakes this week and we were very close to the epicenters which is scary =(

Your chicks are so cute! Ü

Hope that you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

And I hope that this week is cooler for you!

No that's the west Texas I remember growing up in. We lived in Midland and had no air conditioning. Frankly I don't know how we stood it except that we didn't know the difference.
It was partly cloudy, breezy and near 70 in Central Illinois today. Cold, rainy in Maine.

yep, my poor little plants are sunburned ; ;. I was hoping for a cooler summer this year. I love your new babies. Sure you don't want a new puppy too? lol

It is still very much spring here, Kathleen--early spring even. It has been cool and rainy off and on here the last few days.

Hope you had a Happy Mother's Day and a wonderful weekend! :)

Is it really that HOT?!! yikes!
I think it may have reached a wonderful 70 degrees here today. It felt so good... the kids even played in the hose for awhile this afternoon! Supposed to start getting some rain tonight though.
I'm loving my new baby chicks too. They are fun!

Hey, I have been watching the temps soar over there. We've been in the upper 80's to about 90 and 100% humidity. I worked in my garden for about an hour this afternoon IN THE SHADE and my clothes were drenched in no time. I hope this is not a precursor to what's to come this summer! It's not even officially here yet! Stay cool! Cute chickies!

That is hot. You don't need a heat lamp to brood chicks in that kind of weather.

Chicks are soooooooooo cute, aren't they?

It's raining here, after a sunny, slightly cool day, the kind of days I love here in the Pacific Northwest.Too bad we can't mix some weather up and do an exchange every once in awhile...we get a dose of sunshine while you get some of our rain..

107? That's hot!! We tried to keep our AC off as long as we could but the humidity was so bad here, a lot of the food in the house was ruining. Feel fortunate that you found some baby chicks. They are scarce around here. Even the hatchery has a waiting list for them...and it's time for me to order some more! Guess I'll have to wait to see if Rooster Cogburn can help out.
I love your blog,

Hey Kathleen, the weather here varies ...from dreary to sunny..the temperature isn't bad with it all..and by the way..you should have known better than walk into that feed store...you knew there were chicks waiting for a home :o)...you just had to yield to temptation :o( don't feel bad! I've been wondering how I could sneak raising some even in the house :o( Cecil and the neighbors would kill me...Ginny

Oh, Miss Kathleen!

What sweet pictures of your babies!
They're so sweet and comforting and, well, perfect!

That weather, however, is not! Bless your hearts! I feel that it's miserable, here, too. And it's only May. It's not as hot as your home, but the heavy humidity is just awful. It's so hard to breathe and do the smallest tasks.
Even indoors doesn't want to cool off. It's kind of worrisome!

I sure hope that you had a blessed and happy Mother's Day!

blessings,
Julie

That is HOT! We have been having a lot of rain, too much now. One extreme to the other. First they say we are in a severe drought here in GA, now we are all full up here. I get the fever every Spring too, you just can't help it, you have to have some of those little fuzzies to make Spring complete. :) They are cute! So if its that hot there NOW, what is it going to be in August??? Scary thought! Hugs, Kelly

GA is having lots of rain. Almost daily for the past 10 days or so. It's lovely and green and I'm not complaining though.

Love the little chicks!

The heat is unbelievable...how does your garden grow?
I totally understand the experience at the feed store!
You can always sqeeze another chick or eight in!

Shawn, the worker at our favorite feed store, greets us with an empty box when we arrive. He always trys to make us take chicks home. But we try to be strong, we try not to look at them.

Weather, whether we like it or not. Very breezy and very damp here. I don't fly but I would certainly not mind teleporting down there to pickup some of your hot rays.
