Harvest Time and Perennial "beer" Punch

The cold nights are making the pumpkin and gourd vines die out,
so I picked the remaining pumpkins and gourds to decorate with.
Just had to have some inside!

Some on my grandmother's ladderback chair on the porch.

Some to greet visitors as they walk up.

And we always have back door guests more than front door guests. So I had to have more to pretty up this plain porch.
A few days ago, I commented on Julie's post, go visit her at Gingerbread Pumpkinhttp://gingerbread-pumpkin.blogspot.com/ about being embarrassed to go buy beer for a "garden tonic" for my flowers. It never fails that I see someone from church as I am buying a beer! I don't drink,... honest! I have Jerry Baker's book of Garden Secrets, and he uses beer for quite a lot of things. From flower bed booster, compost booster to all purpose yard fertilizer. I told Julie, I need to take my book to the store to prove to who ever that it is for the YARD and not for me! But I don't think they would believe me{: lol. So Julie, here is the recipe...

Perennial Punch
jump start your flowerbeds by overspraying them with this one-two, powerful punch.
1 can of beer
1 cup of liquid dish soap
1 cup of antiseptic mouthwash
1/2 cup regular cola(not diet)
1/4 tsp instant tea granules
Mix all ingredients together in a large bucket. Then pour into your 20 gallon hose-end sprayer, and apply 100 square feet of planting area. Let the soil sit for two days, and then you can plant.
So now...... here is my proof!! It really does seem to do well.

Oh, how I love you! I'm going to try this once as soon as the ground is workable come spring.

I saw this show on HGTV and J. Baker had a tonic he used for roses. I could not write fast enough to get the recipe, but, thought I'd buy his book, of course with money matters this day and age, I look at my poor, dear desparate, roses and only wish I had that recipe. Would you mind sharing that one as well?

It's me again, I really should proof read, "before" I send a comment, my only excuse is, I was really overwhelmed that you posted this recipe. Thanks so much for sharing!

lol! my dad used to put beer in a jar lid, set it out to get rid of snails/slugs. Not sure how much actually got into the lids, tho.

Hey Kathleen! I'll bet your "punch" smells better than the manure tea I use!*Ü*

That is a beautiful harvest, and I' love the way you have decorated with all that bounty! I want to be a back door friend, ok?

Have a wonderful weekend! Chris

Wow- that sounds like some kinda powerful stuff, Kathleen!
At least with the mouthwash, no one will ever know what those little perennials have been up to. LOL

Oh, Kathleen!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Do you know if this would work in a vegetable garden? I don't have any flower gardens (for shame, I know!)
If it won't, do you have any special concoctions for veggie gardens? I've got lots of rum leftover! *winks*
Blessings,
Julie
