A White Dove

Last week I noticed a white bird sitting on my hen house. As I walked over to it, I was surprised to see that it was a white dove and also not scared of me. It allowed me to walk up to it, but stayed an arms reach away. It acted weak. I placed a shallow pan of water and some feed on top of a holding pen by the hen house and it jumped right down and immediately started eating.
It is a little larger than the usual doves we have here as you can see. It is absolutely beautiful. I have the pen door open and fresh hay in the nest box, and I will be placing fresh food and water out for it regularly. Not sure if someone lost it or if it is just passing through. But I feel lucky to be able to see it each day!

Thanks for well wishes for my trip. We're taking off in a little while !

Wonder if it is a white homing pigeon, or escapee from some one's flock ! Often, white doves are used as decorative additions to weddings and funerals, but the "white dove releases " during special events are released homing pigeons because doves don't "home ".

Either way, what a memorable event to have a white dove land at your place, isn't it beautiful ?. KathyB.

Do you think it's someone's pet? I know a man around here that raises doves and pigeons... it may be lost!! It is so pretty.. and BIG!

The bird might have gotten hurt during it's travel with a group.A little bit of kindness goes a long way...you will get a blessing for putting out some feed...guaranteed

What a beautiful bird! The winds blew her in the right direction to have her land where you could care for her. She's a lucky bird indeed.

This bird is a White Homing Pigeon that is probably lost. White Doves can not survive in the wild because they are domesticated. I raise White Homers exclusively for White Dove Releases here in Central Texas. If the bird has a Band on its right leg you should be able to track the owner with the ID number if not, you have a new member to your loft if you keep feeding it. You should be able to handle the bird without frightening it.

Good Luck,
Joe
